Achieve Excellence in Emergency Medicine Services
Achieve Excellence in Emergency Medicine Services
The Gulf Federation of Emergency Medicine (GFEM) and Health Standards Organization (HSO) have entered into a partnership to facilitate standardization of emergency medicine services in the region. In collaboration with GFEM, HSO offers access to world class-standards, leading practices, and service assessment programs to its members to promote patient safety, quality of care, and people centred care values. Through the strategic partnership between HSO and GFEM, our shared vision of providing high quality services and improving patient experiences can be attained more effectively. Health Standards Organization (HSO) is a global, independent, not-for-profit organization that develops world class standards, innovative assessment programs, new technologies, and activation services so people in their own jurisdiction can save and improve lives. HSO enables health and social service providers to achieve and maintain high quality care, enhance patient safety, and adhere to international best practices. GFEM members receive the offerings at a discounted price, and the program contents and software will be updated regularly as improvements are made throughout the duration of membership. Together, we can increase our positive influence and lead the region in promoting patient safety and high quality provision of emergency services.

Emergency Medicine and Disaster Preparedness Standards
Organizations wishing to pursue a proven and effective framework for quality improvement are invited to implement the Emergency Medicine and Disaster Preparedness standards. The standards package includes standards, program resources, and a self-assessment tool suitable for any health care environment.
Members will have access to a content library with over 1,000 leading practices covering various fields of healthcare also related to Emergency Medicine and Disaster Preparedness. The criteria cover the critical aspects of patient safety and emergency service provision along the continuum of care. |
Emergency Medicine and Disaster Preparedness Assessment
HSO offers an assessment program that provides members with the necessary tools and resources to evaluate their performance against standards of excellence.
The assessment is performed by peer reviewers that are experts in the field of Emergency Medicine. It is implemented in line with Qmentum International Program guidelines and generates a report for participating organizations identifying gaps and areas for improvement. The assessment is a platform to learn and exchange knowledge on best practices in the subject matter. |
Trauma Distinction Program
The program offers a coordinated and rigorous approach to trauma throughout the entire patient pathway, from pre-hospital care to rehabilitation. The program incorporates standards of excellence, key performance indicators, and protocols specific to emergency services. Distinction requires the use of evidencebased protocols based on the latest research related to quality, safety, and efficiency in the field. Achieving excellence in trauma care will improve patient outcomes, cultivate a culture of safety, and mitigate risks to reduce costly errors. |
“Trauma system accreditation is a proven strategy for improving trauma care and outcomes, and we encourage every trauma system to strive for the new Distinction program.”
